American Staffordshire Terrier
The American Staffordshire is a stocky and muscular dog that has great agility and strength for its size. He has a broad, powerful head, short muzzle and very strong jaws. His chest is deep and broad with pronounced cheek muscles and a broad skull. His ears may be half prick, rose or cropped. The coat is short and glossy and can be any color although white, mostyle white, liver, and black and tan are not encouraged. His nose must be black.

| Temperament: | This breed is very friendly towards humans and are not suspicious of strangers. They do not make good guard dogs. This terrier is gentle, good-natured and makes a very affectionate pet. It is good with children and aduls. They like to please theier master so are almost always obedient. |

| Origin | The Staffordshire Bullterrier was developed by crossing the Bulldog and various terriers in the English region of Stafforshire. After arriving in the United States, American breeders increased its weight and gave it a more powerful head. Now the American Staffordshire is recognized as a separate breed and is larger and heavier then the British breed. |
| Health Issues: | Generally a healthy breed. Some are prone to hip dysplasia, hereditary cataracts and congenital heart disease. |
| Exercise | This breed needs plenty of regular exercise. Thye must be kept leashed in publec to avoud fights with other dogs. |
