| Temperament: | The American Foxhound is sweet, kind, loyal, and loving at home. They are excellent with children and get along well with other dogs because of their pack-hunting background, but should not be trusted with non-canine pets. On the hunt, the foxhound is a warrior. Once a scent is picked up, the foxhound will follow it, neglectful of commands. They can be difficult to housebreak. |

| Origin | The American Foxhound is a descendant from the English hounds which were brought to America in 1650. They were bred over a century later to a French hound in which George Washington received as a gift from Lafayette and became the American Foxhound. The new breed was originally used for seeking out Indians, but hen became efficient hunters of wild animals. |
| Health Issues: | This breed is free from genetic disorders such as hip and bone problems that affect other large breeds. They do have a tendency to overfeed though, so weight could be an issue. |
| Exercise | The American Foxhound needs a lot of exercise or he becomes restless and destructive. He could run around all day and still act enthusiastic and eager to run some more. |
