Airedale Terrier

Airedale Terrier (shortened to "Airdale") is a large terrier with a long flat head, wiry coat and deep chest. It stands square and has very straight legs. It is the largest of the terriers and excels in agility, eyesight and hearing. The Airedale Terrier has an athletic physique with a sweet disposition. It has excelled at being a hunter for foxes, badgers, weasels, otters, water rats and ducks.

Temperament:The Airedale Terrier is a courageous and protective breed that needs to feels loved and respected. It will do good with older children and makes a loyal family pet. He is intelligent and responsive and can be obedience trained at a high level. Until properly trained, they can be very rowdy since they are naturally lively.
Size:Weight: 50-70 lbs Height 22-24 inches
Living Conditions:The Airdale Terrier will do best in an average sized yard. They are not recommended for small living spaces since they have a very active lifestlye.
OriginOriginally known as the Waterside Terrier and sometimes the Bingley Terrier. This breed was derived from crossing the old english back and tan terrier and otterhound. In the 19th century they were used for game hunting, vermin killing and police and military work.
Health Issues:Overall a very hardy breed. Some may suffer from eye problems, hip dysphasia and skin infections. If it has dry skin, and adjusted omega-6/omega 3 fatty acid ration should be fed in his diet.
ExerciseThis breed needs plenty of exercise. They love to play ball, swim, or retrieve objects. They are very lively their first two years of life, but become more mellow with age.
GroomingThis breed has a hard, short-haired double coat that should be plucked twice a year. If you keep he coat stripped it will shed little to no hair. They require a moderate level of maintenance. The beard should be washed daily because of food residue.
