Afghan Hound
The Afghan Hound is a sighthound dog breed distinguished by its thick, fine, silky coat and its tail with a ring curl a the end. This breed has been described as "a king of dogs" with its majestic, elegant, noble and courageous demeanor. They acquired their unqu features in the cold mountains of Afghanistan where it was originally used to hunt wolves, foxes and gazelles. The coat may be any color, but white markings are discouraged. The long topkont and the shorter-haired saddle on the back in the mature dog are distinctive features of the Afghan Hound coat. The high hipbones and unique small ring on the end of the tail are also characteristics of the breed.

| Grooming | The long thick hair of this dog demand a lot of attention. Brushing a dry coat will damage the coat and even make it more easily matted. Weekly baths are not necessary if your dog is not a show dog but will keep the hair better maintained and manageable. This breed is an average shedder. |
